About

ICD History

In April of 2019, a group of dedicated Ignacio business owners and community leaders began meeting to discuss the possibility of helping Ignacio become a designated Creative District within the state. In May, members of the steering committee visited numerous nearby creative districts to better understand their value. The visit showed how a creative district designation can have a positive impact and effect on the economic outlook of a town and region.  Today, we are a collaborative of dedicated artists, creatives, and engaged community members who have come together to support and foster artistic expression to help the community create, learn, and grow. From our not-for-profit organizations to our local government leaders, businesses, and community organizations, we are making a unique, collective, and creative footprint in Southwest Colorado. Engaging State, County, experts, and local stakeholders has led to a more engaged community, as well as helped to gain organizational stability.  Thanks to the support from the community, volunteers, and our amazingly dedicated Board of Directors, we have had the privilege of participating in numerous meaningful events, while making major headway behind the scenes. With strong collaborative efforts, the Ignacio Creative District has developed impactful creative programing, events, and projects, that encompass inclusivity, diversity, and social equity, helping us to make great strides towards achieving our mission!
